What is Reiki All About?

>> CLICK HERE To Learn Reiki From Two Highly Experienced Usui Reiki Masters

Reiki is a healing method that became popular in the Western cultures beginning in the twentieth century. It is an ancient healing method that has been used by the Japanese for several centuries. Through Reiki, many people will experience healing, balance, relaxation, and transfers of energy. By knowing how Reiki works, you will be able to use the technique in order to change your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual conscious levels.

When one begins to use Reiki as a practice, there are several principles that are used as guidelines. This will help the understanding of the use of energy to be taught at a higher level. By allowing the principles to be a part of the practice, one can use the energy for spiritual and mental healing easier.

Reiki is known to be a transfer of energy from external to internal environments. The practice began as defining a universal energy that is present in the universe. Those who practice Reiki will then be able to take this universal energy and transfer it into an individual. By doing this, it will change the internal energy level and allow several different types of healing to work.

In order for Reiki to be effective, one is expected to practice several different things. If you are practicing Reiki on your own, there are specific steps to follow. These steps allow you to become in tune to the universal energy, as well as allow you to become focused and relaxed when transferring the energy. Usually, it is best to take a class to learn how to do this effectively. If it is not done properly, it can cause the opposite effect.

The first principle that is taught in Reiki is in relation to the secret of inviting happiness. This is used in order to give students a basic understanding of the different energy flows that they will be using in relation to the Reiki technique. By doing this, the students will be able to understand a level of healing that is taking place. They will also be able to understand a new idea of happiness in relation to using the energy.

The second principle taught is that Reiki is a spiritual medicine for all illness. This idea is mostly taught in order to allow students to understand the basis of Reiki and where it’s emphasis and importance lies. Because it is an alternative healing method, Reiki is able to emphasize the spiritual ties to the method.

For those that are practicing Reiki on their own and decide to take a class, there are several things that will happen. Reiki classes are divided into levels. The more conscious you become of the universal energy and your internal energy, the higher of a level you can move to. Once you become an expert in these methods you can become a teacher, master and healer of this healing method.

The next that is taken in Reiki is to identify the different sources of internal energy that need to be transferred. These will usually be transferred by your breath moving the energy out of your body. Those with illnesses will have parts in their body that have a noticeable different source of energy. You can find this energy through either your intuition, or for those beginning the practice, they can use a light touch to begin recognizing the energy.

Once you recognize the internal and external energy, you can then begin to move the energies out of your body, and new energies in. This is usually done using two methods. Your breathing practice will often times help with this. You can also use a light touch in order to transfer a different energy from the universe. Reiki masters and trainers will usually do the healing using a touch when they are using the method on someone else.

Reiki is known to be an effective method of healing and balancing by several for centuries. By the continuous practice of transferring energy, one will find that healing, balance, relaxation and a different level of focus will take place. Several can use Reiki if they feel that they need a change of energy in their physical, mental, emotional or spiritual lives.

Reiki as an Alternative Healing Process

    >> CLICK HERE To Learn Reiki From Two Highly Experienced Usui Reiki Masters

Maybe you are not familiar with Reiki, don’t worry, you are not alone.

To start with, Reiki is associated with natural holistic healing or a healing where pharmaceutical drugs and medical surgeries are just an alternative in case the system of holistic healing fails.

Reiki is an early form of energy healing in which a participant serves as a channel for Universal Life Force. The Reiki participant opens himself/herself as a channel for an energy that comes from a higher source to aid healing or correct a person’s aura. This is believed to be beneficial for the body, mind, and soul or the Indian system called chakra.

Reiki got its principle from the thought that the universe has an energy that gives form, structure, and health. This force is also called Chi by the Chinese martial artists. It is said to be capable of healing anything because its energy comes from the basic fundamental levels of reality.

It also teaches that the energy flows are affected by the thoughts of a Reiki practitioner. For instance, if he/she thinks of negative things, this will manifest diseases and unfortunate events. If he/she thinks the other way around, good health and fortune will come. These are facilitated to help the patients believe whatever positive thoughts they have in their minds.

To have an idea of how the healing process is conducted, here is an example: usually, the healer performs some hand rituals and eventually places it over a sick person. Then he will perform some massage from mid hair, and he will make some scooping actions like he is smoothing a bedspread. This movement is intent to correct the person’s aura. There are other Reiki masters that just place their hands directly to the patient and keeping it there as long as necessary.

They are also capable of healing from a distance, or also called Reiki remote healing. The healer will just ask for an object that will represent the ill person and they will treat that said object just like he is treating the person. They are also capable of healing and blessing objects such as cars and computers.

Reiki is definitely a different healing process compared with others. It is up to you if you will believe in their methods.

    Reiki- Does it Concern Religion?

    >> CLICK HERE To Learn Reiki From Two Highly Experienced Usui Reiki Masters

The very essence of Reiki is healing using natural methods, but it does not concern any religion or cult at all. This is with firm conviction that even though Reiki is spiritual in nature, it does not advocate any kind of belief.

Faith here depends on the person’s individual capability of believing on the effectiveness of Reiki towards him. There is no particular teaching or Dogma that you must learn in order to be cured by Reiki.

Most people just associate Reiki with God because of the unexplainable healing process and effect that it provides them after undergoing the treatment. This is probably due to a certain therapeutic technique and Divine intervention that heals them. Like in any other form of healing, it is only natural to ask for God’s guidance.

The term Reiki is derived from the Japanese term “Rei”, which means God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power. The name itself suggests about the participation of the guidance of God in healing but does not necessarily imply that it is a religion. The “Ki” also means life force energy. To join and decipher this two terms, it simply means ‘spiritually guided life force energy.’

Reiki is already proven effective in curing people through all walks of life. The goal of Reiki is to make people realize that in healing ones spirit, he should possess all the willingness and commitment since it is a part of the healing experience.

To establish a lasting effect of the Reiki treatment, the client must do his responsibilities by participating in all the activities that he need to take part in the healing process. It should be a collaborative effort between the healer and the client.

    Treating Depression with Reiki

    >> CLICK HERE To Learn Reiki From Two Highly Experienced Usui Reiki Masters

Reiki Masters believe that thought is energy vibrating at a very high frequency while the human body is energy vibrating at a lower frequency. Vibrations produce actions and actions produce reactions at grosser and grosser levels of frequency in a ripple effect!

While positive thoughts are universally acknowledged to manifest as health, negative thoughts are held to produce disease or lack of ease. Mental disease is manifested as depression, depressive psychosis, mania or even schizophrenia.

Treating depression with Reiki is fast becoming a sought-after alternative to modern drugs. Reiki deals with depression as negative energy. Negative energy manifests at the aura level as imbalance in the Chakras or energy centres and is visible to the Reiki practitioner as grey or black spots in the aura. Imbalance of the energy centres causes reactions at a physical level, for the energy centre governs the health or disease of the organs and endocrine glands located within its purview.

    The Chakra System and Depression

The Chakras that are usually blocked in a person who is depressed are the lower--the root chakra, the naval chakra, and to some extent the solar plexus chakra, which is part of the middle group.

The Root Chakra anchors the person to the earth. It represents the physical will and is associated with the spinal column, bones, teeth, nails, anus, rectum, colon, prostrate gland, blood and the building of cells. The Suprarenal glands, which produce adrenalin and influence body temperature, are governed by condition of the root chakra. The person whose root chakra is out of balance cannot accept life or enjoy physical existence. The creative energy of such a person is low and self-expression is not considered necessary. The person will have a tendency to overindulge in sensual pleasures such as overeating, alcohol, sex etc. He or she becomes selfish, self-centred. Physically the person becomes overweight and suffers from constipation. When challenged the person becomes irritable, aggressive, upset, violent and displays a complete lack of trust. If the Chakra is completely blocked the person will lack physical and emotional stamina and will be filled with feelings of uncertainty.

The Naval Chakra is the creative and reproductive centre of the being. It is associated with the pelvic girdle, kidneys, bladder and all liquids such as blood, lymph, gastric juices and the regulation of the female menstrual cycle. The glands associated with this chakra are the Prostrate, gonads, ovaries and testicles. If this energy centre is active and free of blocks the person exhibits freedom in self-expression and life appears interesting. Interpersonal relationships are regarded as beautiful. A disharmonious chakra induces the person turn off sensual messages and display low self-esteem, emotional paralysis and sexual coldness. Life does not seem worth living and suicidal tendencies manifest themselves.

The Solar Plexus Chakra is the power centre of the being. A harmonious Chakra gives the person a feeling that he has the power of shaping things. It is associated with the lower back, abdomen, digestive system, stomach, liver, spleen, gallbladder and the automatic nervous system. The organ that is governed by this Chakra is the Pancreas. The body absorbs solar energy through this chakra. This nurtures the ethereal body and energizes and maintains the physical body. Emotional energy is also governed by this Chakra. Personality traits and social identities are determined by it. Since it is located between the lower and higher chakras it has the additional function of purifies the basic instincts and directing the creative energy to higher values of life. It is also connected to the astral body and helps us integrate our feelings, wishes and experiences harmoniously. A block solar plexus chakra deprives the individual of the zest for life. The person feels gloomy, unbalanced and moody. Negative vibrations impact the individual through this chakra. The person is restless and attempts to manipulate everything in accordance with his or her own wishes. There is a persistent feeling of inadequacy, which drives them to ceaseless activity. The person gets easily threatened and tends to feel dejected and discouraged. The person insists that obstacles are preventing them from realizing the true goals of life.

It is clear that the symptoms of a person in the grip of acute depression are as much physical as emotional and psychological. A block will exist in the root chakra, the naval chakra and the Solar plexus Chakra. The creative energies of the person will be at an all time low and the person will avoid situations where he or she has give expression to his or her feelings. He is self indulgent, selfish, self-centred and suffers from a large number of ailments related to the stomach and has a tendency to put on weight. He or she will lack physical stamina and will be moody, irritable, aggressive and defensive. He will have no interest in life and will refuse to socialize. In extreme cases he will attempt suicide.

Case Study of Treating Depression with Reiki:

Ms.L, an obese woman (she weighed 180 Kgs), had not stepped out of her front door for the last ten years. She was convinced that she could not walk without support and that she would fall down if she tried. She spent entire days in the house, refusing to talk with visitors. She had a compulsive need to eat and would cook and consume huge quantities of Chicken, eggs and meats at odd times of the day. She had tried anti depressant drugs and other methods of treatment that included Homeopathy, acupressure, acupuncture and anything that was recommended to her by her sister and brother in law. She was convinced that she was born unlucky and she would never be normal again. She would begin a treatment with lukewarm enthusiasm, but would soon slip into lethargy and refuse to go on with the treatment. When Ms.L was referred for Reiki, she had convinced herself that she had not long to live and had told her sister not to be surprised if she found her dead one-day. Her sister-- alarmed--rushed to the Reiki clinic for help.

Day 1: Since the patient would not come to the clinic, I decided to visit her home. It was clear from Ms.L's posture that she was in the grip of acute depression. She was seated on a sofa with her feet up on a footstool. Her body limp, her head bowed and her shoulders drooping. Her arms lay lifelessly at her sides. She seemed lost to the world and did not even look up when we entered the room. She merely lifted her eyes to look at us without enthusiasm when she was talked to. An aura scan revealed that her root chakra and the naval chakra were completely blocked and her solar plexus chakra was partially blocked.

With a lot of persuasion from her sister and myself, she got up and went to lie down on her bed. I noted that she used the walker even though she was perfectly able to walk without it. She seemed to cling to it as a means of support. I kept up a general chatter as I started the treatment. She continued looking at the ceiling blankly. After some time, she started to pay a little more attention. Her muscles would twitch and she lifted her head to see what we are doing. She called her sister near and asked her whether we were using some chemicals as she was feeling some heat where my hand rested. When she was assured that no chemicals were being used, she subsided once more into indifference. Slowly and visibly she began to relax. She soon fell into a deep sleep and began to snore. As the round of treatment was over, we let her sleep.

Day 2: Ms.L was waiting for me. She looked relaxed and calm. On enquiry, she replied, "I slept deeply and dreamlessly for the first time. I feel well". She then went willingly and lay down on her bed. After chatting with her for some time on a variety of topics (she did not reply), I started the treatment. While doing Reiki, I continued to chat and Ms.L replied in monosyllables to the questions being addressed to her. At the end of the hour she remarked, "That felt nice".

Day 3: Mrs. L was ready for me. She was lying down and eager to start the treatment. She began to talk about the weather all the time keeping an eye on me. When I agreed that it was hot, she began telling me how the heat was affecting her and how she could not eat as much as she used to. I made sympathetic noises to encourage her. She seemed to feel reassured and gradually opened up--almost as if she were talking to herself and occasionally asking me a question. Then, her tone changed and she became more emotional and personal. She poured out her feelings. She insisted that she was very depressed because God had taken away her husband and her children had all flown away to distant lands and nobody cared for her. She said she had hated God from the day he had taken her husband and she had not gone to church or prayed for a long time. Since she had been very religious, she felt guilty that she had forsaken God but, she hated him and she did not want to pray to him. She then began weeping and ranting at God and exclaiming that she should not be doing it! This emotional outburst lasted for almost an hour, during which I continued the treatment, unfazed. Finally, exhausted by emotions and relaxed by the Reiki, Ms.L fell asleep.

Day 4: Ms.L was waiting for me--a little shamefaced and diffident. She greeted her with a defiant "I was carried away a little yesterday. I am sorry". I assured her that it was ok and that she must not hold back her emotions and that I do not mind her talking to me about anything. She then, asked me a little suspiciously 'Do you think your treatment is making me unbalanced?". Well that was a tricky question at this stage and I was not very sure whether I should admit to the fact or assure her that it was not so. I intuitively felt that it would be better to explain to Ms.L and so I told her that Reiki dives deep into the psyche and stirs up emotional blocks for release. I explained that what she was experiencing was the release of emotional blocks and it was nothing to be alarmed about. It would help her come out of her lethargy and feel more enthusiastic about life. She was silent for some time and then said that she was glad that I had been honest with her. She only requested that whatever she said to me should be kept confidential. I agreed and she said she was looking forward to the treatment. As we went through the various hand positions, she started asking me about Reiki and what it was all about. I explained to her about energy centres and how imbalances in energy caused illness. She expressed eagerness to learn it herself. I told that it could be easily arranged. She then began to talk to me about her husband and the wonderful man that he had been and how cancer had eaten into his insides unsuspected. She described the shock they had experienced when the disease was diagnosed at a terminal stage. She described the trauma of waiting for death to part them. She re-lived the pain she had felt when he went to the hospital for the last time and she could not be with him during his last minutes, as she was laid up in bed at home with a fracture. She felt she had let him down and was guilty of continuing to live when he had died such an agonizing death. She then sobbed quietly till she fell asleep exhausted by her emotions.

Day 5: Ms.L was looking very anxious when I entered her room. She immediately piped up "Do you think God is cruel?" I cautiously replied "No". She then asked, "Do you think I should begin to pray to him? Do you think he will hear my prayers now? I have abused him so much!" I was impressed. I said, "Yes, you should. God is very forgiving and he is always happy to welcome his children, however abusive they have been!" She was content with my reply and got ready for the treatment. While I worked the hand positions she continued telling me how much she loved God and how she had missed her conversations with him. She then told me she is convinced that her husband was waiting for her in heaven and she would join him when God felt that it was time. Meanwhile she had a lot to do. She had written to her son and asked him to come back home to keep her company and was in hourly expectation of hearing from him. She then began thanking me for the wonderful treatment that I was giving her and she was convinced that God had sent me to her when she was most depressed.

Days 6-21: Followed with the patient very enthusiastic and cooperative. She gradually left off her walker and her posture improved and she stuck to mealtimes with determination. She even consented to step out of her house and take short walks in the corridor with her sister. A month later she completed a course in Reiki and even visited a textile showroom to select some dress material for her. She invited me over for a party she held to celebrate her Son's return home. (The boy had left his job to take up one closer home to be with his mother). She was bubbling with energy and extremely enthusiastic about life. A quick scan of her chakras revealed that the energy levels were normal and the grey spots in her aura at the root and naval chakra had disappeared. The Solar plexus Chakra was also open.

    Combining Reiki With Other Therapies.

Many Reiki practitioners combine crystal therapy with Reiki to stimulate the chakras. Limonite, Lapis Lazuli, Pietersite, and Turquoise are used to stimulate the sacral Chakra Wardite, Mesolite, Jasper, and Jet, help the base chakra open up. The Solar Plexus Chakra is stimulated by chrysanthemum stone, gypsum, jasper, obsidian and rutilated quartz.. Wadeite is used to stimulate all the chakras. I personally, combine Reiki treatment with Bach Flower treatment and crystal therapy as I find that it accelerates the healing and gives the patient a psychological satisfaction.

As is evident from the above case study, that Reiki brings about immediate and dramatic improvement in condition of persons suffering from depression. It is also evident from countless testimonials that persons who have come out of their depression by using Reiki have not had a recurrence of the same. Many hospitals round the world are recommending Reiki as a parallel system of treatment. Treating depression with Reiki is becoming a recognized practice within hospitals and more so with local doctors. The efficacy and impact of Reiki is best understood when it is personally experienced.

    Becoming a Powerful Reiki Master

    >> CLICK HERE To Learn Reiki From Two Highly Experienced Usui Reiki Masters

Reiki is usually the shortened version of various styles of Usui Reiki Ryoho. Examples of other uses are 5239 Reiki an asteroid named after the astrometor Reiki Kushida. (Wikipedia encyclopedia)

Usui Reiki Ryoho is neither a religion nor a belief system. However, it parallels religion in the proven/unproven debate. The energy flowing in Reiki can be sensed in many ways, but cannot be proved nor disproved. When it comes to energy E=mc² is accepted, but universal energy remains in the gray area. As with religions, this leaves people in the middle saying everything comes from human beings and if you think differently show me proof. Many canards have been created in an attempt to explain what cannot be proven.

The first law of thermodynamics states that energy can be neither created nor destroyed; it can only be changed from one form to another. The spiritual practice Mikao Usui founded uses a gentle form of universal energy that if not altered by human actions or another energy attaching to it, is powerful.

Synergism happens when Reiki is added to other practices; because Reiki is a form of universal energy how can any addition make it greater. A person can try to equate Reiki to manmade forms of energy and grade its power on a scientific scale. Or, they can simply look at a child as he or she gazes at their four-legged companion bouncing back from an injury and see unproven energy flowing from that child's heart. Reiki is the vibrations of love and harmony from the universe.

I have studied various forms of Usui Reiki Ryoho and diligently listened and practiced what three of my Reiki Shihans (teachers) shared with me. Two of those teachers have only two teachers between themselves and Mikao Usui, and all have done research in places I have not been. I have also had other teachers of styles of Usui Reiki Ryoho from around the world share things with me. Therefore, I am not basing what I say on just my own daily practice.

The first thing most Shihans (teachers) of all styles of Usui Reiki Ryoho tell students is, "Trust in Reiki". (Doi, Inamoto, 2002) The unique form of energy, which flows with Reiki, balances mind, body, and spirit in ways that can be called powerful, but most Reiki teachers and practitioners simply look at it as wonderful for the life that is experiencing the healing. Reiki is not a complicated practice, just one that requires time, study, practice, and understanding.

"Each of us is born with the right to be healthy and live with happiness, and the path of Reiki helps us to fulfill that right."-- Roberta R. Barnes © 2000 I wrote these words following the first styles of Usui Reiki Ryoho I studied. I since have been blessed to have been lucky enough to have shared with me many techniques and much factual history, but my view has not changed.

Even though Hippocrates was not referring to Reiki he described its power as he said, "The physician cures, but nature heals." Surgeons and other medical professionals remove the immediate danger, and then the healing begins. It is natural power that provides what is needed for the inner healer to awaken and heal. Reiki is natural power that often aids in healing the mind and body far beyond and much faster then anyone, medical or other wise, ever expected. If searching for factual documentation of healings directly from Reiki, you may not find any. Reiki teachers and practitioners focus on a life form healing in the way that is best for that life form at that junction in time, and have no need for receiving praise. The motto of Komyo Reiki Kai is, "Go placidly in the midst of praise or blame." The fee Reiki practitioners and teachers accept is for his or her time spent with a client or student, and overhead.

Life force energy usually does not require proof because it is something each of us experiences. For centuries different people have used his or her life force energy to help another heal, leaving themselves sometimes exhausted. The supply of universal energy is endless and any Reiki practitioner's life force energy that flows with Reiki is replenished as powerful universal energy flows through that practitioner.

Becoming powerful presents different images to different people. All human languages are complex, and use varying symbols such as characters, kanji, dots, hand movements, etc. In Reiki we see many symbols being introduced to point a student to various energies within the unique form of universal energy. The creation of Reiki symbols was a very natural evolution to represent parts of an unproven energy. Colors are sometimes used as symbols; the meaning of color as a symbol is determined by each person's own reality. Universal energy is received by a person's receptors open to receiving, and interrupted by those elements that formed that person's reality. Symbols, colors, chakras, and such are sometimes used to help students understand the flow of energy, as opposed to trying to make universal energy more powerful. Reiki is a path towards peace, tranquility, and joy; no worry is given if symbols are not drawn exactly as shown and symbols are transcended at the time that is best for each individual.

When I think of the path Usui Reiki Ryoho is traveling in various communities in this century I think of Dr. H.C.F. Meyer. Matthew Wood (1997) tells how in the 1880s Dr. Meyer learned how to make from the Native Americans a preparation using Echinacea Angustifolia he called a cure-all. Dr. Meyer repeatedly allowed himself to be bitten by rattlesnakes to demonstrate its healing power. His cure-all was the original "snake oil". Other people made their own preparations either not knowing his formula or trying to improve it. Consequently, this gave birth to the term "snake oil" becoming equated to the term quackery.

As far as becoming powerful, humankind has been blessed to have many "powerful" people throughout history. Think for a moment about a woman who might be described as living in a dark silent world. Through the teachings of another she was able to touch many lives in a positive way. She became a Powerful American writer that developed her skills with discipline, determination, and time. She, Helen Keller (1880-1968), wrote, "True happiness is not attained through self-gratification, but through fidelity to a worthy purpose." The historical facts surrounding powerful people show their actions are what placed him or her in a position of power.

There were only four years between when Mikao Usui founded his system Reiki Ryoho and his death, but in that short time he passed on a wondrous gift. He was a quiet man and only raised three of his 2,000 students to the level where they could open others to the form of universal energy to which he had connected. (Rivard, Doi, Inamoto, 1997-2003) Shouoh Matsui in 1928 wrote, "Mikao Usui did not like to announce it". (Rivard, 2003, translation M. Iwasaki) Mikao Usui's power is symbolized by on a scale of one being the best, he rated himself a two to encourage his students to do their best. Throughout history, those that "stand out from the crowd" do so because their actions set him or her apart from others.

Reiki Master represents different levels in different styles of Usui Reiki Ryoho. Many men and women that I know, although having one or more certificates stating Reiki Master prefer to call themselves Reiki Shihan, Reiki Teacher, or simply say I have reached the fourth or higher level in one of more styles of Usui Reiki Ryoho.

One of the synonyms for Master is teacher, but others such as ruling and commanding are misleading when it comes to universal energy. Even if a person believes that all the forms of universal energy are within each person it is still misleading. If each of us could switch on power and be in total command of our own body, we could control the degeneration and regeneration of all our cells.

Mikao Usui's first awakening was intellectual and following his second awakening, his connection to universal energy, he said the system he founded was the key to health and happiness. What could be more powerful then having your pathway opened to a form of universal energy that when used in a spiritual practice can lead to health and happiness? The determination and discipline some people use in what is accessible to him or her does seem to take them out of the position of skipper and make him or her the "Master" of their own fate.

Not all energies are positive even though they may feel powerful; there are supposititious creations in many practices. When deciding to have your pathway opened to the form of universal energy called Reiki it is good to review the teacher's certificate(s). Any Reiki teacher will have a lineage going back to Mikao Usui and will be happy to explain if what he or she practices has been altered in any way.

Would it not be a beautiful world if instead of each person trying to be the most powerful of anything, each person tried to be in balance and allow harmony to emanate from him or her? Can you imagine a world filled with balance and harmony, where the sound of bombs or planes crashing into towers was unknown? As unrealistic as it might sound today, would it not be a wonderful gift to pass onto our children and grandchildren? If each person's goal is to live in balance and be surrounded by harmony instead of seeking power, then why cannot that happen? If each segment is in harmony then the whole is at peace.

Any style honoring the traditions of Usui Reiki Ryoho has the goal of bringing a state of maximum balance and a bright future. Hiroshi Doi said of Reiki, "It is to merge with vibrations of the universal rhythm." Reiki Symbols And Healing

Reiki Symbols - Healing Yourself And Others With Reiki Energy

Reiki Symbols are handed down from Reiki Master to Reiki Master. The symbols are used for attuning other initiates into Reiki and, more importantly, Reiki practicioners use them for healing and protection. One of the simplest and most effective uses of the Reiki and it's symbols is Stress Relief - either your own stress or others.

Using Reiki energy and the symbols is a powerful and effective method of :

    reducing stress; promoting relaxation; promoting emotional and mental well-being;

Reiki Symbols are a means of focusing your attention in order to connect with "specific" healing frequencies. While some teach that the symbols can only be activated in using certain techniques, others teach that they can be activated in many ways. For example, some teach that they can be activated by drawing the symbols with the hand, simply by visualizing them, or even by saying the name of the symbol either out loud or to oneself.

To use the Reiki Symbols, the student must undergo a Reiki Attunement (some call it Reiki Empowerment, the terms are interchangeable really). The Reiki Attunement is a pleasurable experience that normally happens during a Reiki Class or Course although some Master Practicioners have developed Reiki Courses that enable you to be attuned and to use the symbols in your own home, with no-one else in attendance, not having to attend any class at all.

Traditionally, in the West at least, the symbols have been kept secret and sacred. In Japan though it's not uncommon to see the symbols displayed in public places.

To use the symbols and Reiki in general you don't have to spend years practicing meditation or have any spiritual learning at all. All you need is to be attuned to the correct level and you're ready to go.

You can be up and running and healing yourself and others with Reiki energy and Reiki Symbols very quickly indeed.

Here's a list of the most used Reiki Symbols:

CHO KU RAY - "The Power Symbol"
Meaning: "Put all the power of The Universe Here". The primary use of this Symbol is to increase Reiki power. It draws Energy from around you and it focuses it where you want

SEI HEI KI - "The Mental/Emotional Symbol"
Meaning: "God and humanity become one". It is most often used when there is an emotional release or build up in the recipient. It is used primary for mental/emotional healing and calming the mind.

HON SHA ZE SHO NEN - "The Distance Symbol"
Meaning: The God (The Buddha, the Christ, The Spirit..) in Me Greets the God (The Buddha, the Christ, The Spirit..) in You to Promote Enlightenment and Peace This is the Distant Healing Symbol and it is used to send Reiki over distance and time to anyone and anything.

I'm a Reiki practitioner and I'm a lot less stressed than I was before my attunement! According to the AMA, stress is the cause of at least 80% of all human illnesses and disease and 90% of all visits to doctors are for stress-related disorders!

    Distance Healing with Reiki

    >> CLICK HERE To Learn Reiki From Two Highly Experienced Usui Reiki Masters

As a little boy, I was greatly moved by the story of Prometheus, the Greek God, who defied heavenly laws to bring light and fire to mankind. I was amazed at the compassion the prompted him to court suffering for the sake of others. I would feel very sad that he was eternally bound over for this great act of compassion.

I have wept many silent tears for him. When I first learnt Reiki and began practicing I felt as if Prometheus had handed over a special gift of light to me personally—a light so soft, gentle, compassionate and healing that I am constantly moved by its beauty and grace!

Reiki is a compassionate energy. It flows from source to destination in an involuntary, uninterrupted wave. It is faster than human thought and is innately intelligent. There are no obstacles that can retard the flow of the energy. An expressed wish for Reiki is all that it demands and once that exists the person is immediately enveloped in the warmth of the healing energy.

Distance healing in Reiki is based on the principle that Reiki transcends all limitations of time and place. Unlike Prometheus, Reiki cannot be bound even by the Gods. Reiki can be transmitted to a person living in Mars or Jupiter or you can send Reiki to a situation that you anticipate will happen in the future. Often healers use proxies provide themselves with points of reference for the different chakras. They may use the photograph of the person, a teddy bear or even their own Knees and upper thighs to position their hands over the chakras of the absent person. If they are doing Reiki to a situation, they may project the situation in their minds eye or visualize it in front of them and do Reiki to it. Yet others make affirmations on pieces of paper, which they place in a Reiki box and send energy to the affirmation. This kind of distance healing is made possible by invoking appropriate distance healing Reiki symbols.

    Case Study

Ms NS lives all alone in a large City. She had never married and did not have any relatives who could live with her and care for her. Her friends have all passed over. She is 87 years old and did not want to go into an old age home and is vehement about maintaining her independence. She spends her time assisting the local church in its social activities. She visits the parks in the evening and spends the time watching the children at play. She has no friends and hates visitors of any kind. It is as if she has closed the doors on all human contact other than those she chooses to indulge in. She has an income that has allowed her to lead a leisurely life and an apartment to call her own. She has a daily help who does her cooking and cleaning for her.

Everything was fine so long as her health was good. The day she fell ill, she lost confidence in herself and became very depressed. For the first time she became aware of an intense need for companionship. She realized that she had alienated herself from her relatives over the years and she could not recall even one person who would come to her aid in times of need. She lay in bed worrying about little things that she would normally have taken in her stride. She could not eat or sleep and was constantly vomiting and purging herself. She was in constant pain and she could feel her condition worsening day by day. The Doctor, who came in to attend on her, suggested that she go to the hospital for treatment. Ms.NS could not bear the thought and refused to even entertain it. She even repelled his suggestion that she should go into hospital for taking some of the required tests. She insisted on him treating her ailment at home. She informed him that she had never been ill and this discomfort she is experiencing could not be anything very worrisome. However, the Doctor was worried. He could feel a bulging growth in her abdomen and he wanted the tests done for confirming or negating his suspicions. After a lot of threats and persuasion Ms. NS agreed to go into the clinic for the tests. The tests were positive. A tumor clearly showed up in the scans. Though the tumor was not cancerous, it was large and growing and it would give her considerable pain if it was not removed immediately. An operation to remove the tumor was recommended. Ms.NS was shattered. She tried to push away the reality of her illness and rapidly descended into maudlin self pity. She would sit for hours in her chair dazed and uncomprehending. She would refuse to see visitors and would allow the Doctor in after a lot of argument. A Nurse, who was assigned the task of persuading Ms.NS to undertake the operation, was an advocate of Reiki. She suggested that Ms.NS should be coaxed into having a Reiki treatment first. Maybe it would help her accept the situation better and get her to agree to an operation. The Doctor was not very happy with the situation, but agreed to talk to Ms.NS about it.

Ms NS was hoping and praying for a miracle and their description of Reiki gave her a feeling that it was some kind of magic that would help her avoid an operation. It would also help her postpone the need to take a decision about going into the hospital for the operation. She also liked the idea as she did not have to go out to the clinic to undertake the treatment. She had only to lie down in her home at a specified time and relax. She was doing that all the time anyway. A Reiki practitioner was located by the Nurse. A 21 day one hour session daily was agreed to and considering the recalcitrant nature of the patient distance Reiki treatment was recommended. The practitioner decided to use a teddy bear as a proxy for the patient.

Day one: Ms.NS was very excited about the magic that was going to be performed on her. She promptly went to lie down at the specified time. Ms.NS felt a slight tingling warmth in her body as the treatment began. She savored the feeling wonderingly. Gradually her muscles began to relax and she slipped into deep sleep. She woke up after two hours feeling relaxed and strangely peaceful. She was not very sure whether the ‘magic’ was working or she was just imagining it. Anyway she had slept peacefully after a long time.

Day two to four: Ms.NS found the one hour specified very soothing and she was eager that the magic should work. During the treatment the warmth seemed to be intense in some parts and not in others. While describing the sensation she said the warmth began at her feet and traveled up her body till it reached her head. She could immediately sense that the treatment had begun as the warmth seemed to be associated with the treatment. Later the practitioner confirmed that she had the habit of starting her Reiki treatment from the soles of the feet contrary to the normal practice of beginning with the ears and head.

On day four, the practitioner was held up by another patient and was fifteen minutes late in starting the treatment. She was planning to ring up Ms NS and inform her that she had been delayed and to apologize for the same, when the phone rang. She was surprised to receive a call from Ms.NS demanding why she had not started the treatment in time!

Day five to ten: Ms.NS was very comfortable. She was feeling more positive towards life and had recovered from her lethargy. The painful cramps in the stomach had also considerably reduced and she had even begun to feel hungry. She was now eating two meals a day and keeping it down. She could take active interest in all that was happening around her. She even spent some time talking to her maid about her family. She read the papers and even watched TV for sometime. On the tenth day she ventured for a short walk to the park and helped a little girl dress her doll. She was absolutely certain that Reiki was magic and it had brought her new friends and relationships along with health.

Day eleven to twenty one: Ms.NS was gradually recovering her strength. She faithfully adhered to her Reiki treatment and informed the Priest at the local church that she was having “treatment by magic” and she was feeling great. She was convinced that the magic had removed her tumor and she would not require an operation. She donated lavishly for the local blind school and spent time with the children there. She felt so good that she wanted to resume her normal routine, but the Doctor advised her against it. He insisted that she should resume normal activities only after she has had her operation. Ms.NS called him a fool and refused to believe that she had a tumor in her stomach. She told him that the “magic” had rid her off the tumor and she would have no operation done on her for a non existent problem. In despair the Doctor called in a colleague for another opinion. The second Doctor examined the test results and concurred with the diagnosis. He wanted to examine the patient before he gave the final verdict. When he saw Ms NS, he could not believe that it was the same person whose results he had seen. He began to doubt the results and suggested that another set of tests be carried out to confirm the correctness of the results. Ms.NS became stubborn and refused to come in for the tests. However, the second doctor intrigued her by remarking that the tests were being done to prove that the magic had worked. She thought about it for some time and then agreed for the tests. All tests proved negative. The tumor that was clearly visible in the scans of the first test was no longer present in the second set.

Ms NS has not learnt Reiki. She tells everyone she meets that she was cured by a Witch Doctor. This is not the case with the Doctor. He feels humbled and acknowledges in the spirit of Hamlet that there a many things in the heaven and earth that he knows nothing about. He has enrolled himself for the first degree course in Reiki and recommends it as a supplementary treatment to all his patients. His friend still holds the belief that the first tests had been mysteriously wrong in diagnosis and that Ms.NS had probably never had tumor. However, he is willing to wait and watch the impact of Reiki on his friend’s patients and even recommends some of his terminal patients for Reiki in the spirit of experimentation.

Reiki is an energy that flows towards those who are ready and willing to receive it. When a patient downs his defenses and demands a cure, he opens himself to receiving and benefiting by Reiki energy. Ms. NS for reasons of her own was completely open and receptive. She was completely conscious of the impact of the energy flow in her body and unconsciously became a container that captured and retained the energy in her body. It helped remove the negativity in her life and the tumor that had manifested as a physical evidence of her negative reactions to life. Reiki clearly requires both the healer and the person being healed to give and receive the energy unquestioningly.

    Reiki Energy and Guides

Reiki energy increases the positive vibrations in your body and eases stress, it can also clear energy blockages in your chakras and cleanse your aura of spiritual slime. It has been effectively used to help with karmic past-life problems too which manifest in your present birth. The constant use of Reiki can also help coming in contact with spirit guides or angels called Reiki guides. Reiki does not fight a disease on the surface but attacks the root cause of disease at the emotional or spiritual level to bring about balance and harmony in the system and cure a disease wholly. It works of anyone regardless of age or any physical factor. However it is not correct to have unreasonable expectations from Reiki. The cure depends on many factors though and Reiki can be a great supplementary therapy that can enhance the benefits of any other medication or therapy.

Today this art has been adapted and many branches of Reiki can be seen worldwide which have evolved from merging Reiki with another spiritual belief. Reiki is not a cult or even belief system it is simply a way of life and it can harmoniously balance with any other religious or spiritual practice regardless of race, religion, caste and creed. Many people have succesfully used Reiki to enhance their lives, their relationships and their health. Changing your life can be a very positive step which can influence you future pattern. Reiki allows you to change and embrace your way of life.

    Looking for a Reiki Association?

    >> CLICK HERE To Learn Reiki From Two Highly Experienced Usui Reiki Masters

There are many Reiki associations across the globe and there are many reasons for their existence and growth (or non-growth).

When we first arrived back in Australia in 1999 we joined an association that was run by a Reiki Master. We paid our joining fees and received an annual newsletter that focussed on the teachings of that teacher and advertised her courses. This wasn't what we had expected of an association (we were simply supporting her Reiki business!) and soon left. The word association means an organisation of persons having a common interest and we knew that it was certainly not our interest (nor in our interests) to be a part this association. The association did not survive much longer either.

At this point we started thinking seriously about what makes an association worthwhile. We realised that we were looking for an association that had community, was interested in setting some standards for Reiki practices and promoted the system in the greater community. To be successful in its own right an association needed to fulfil certain requirements by providing support to would-be clients and students of the system of Reiki as well its own members. It is not about building the practise of another individual, school or organisation.

It was then we found the Australian Reiki Connection or ARC. It appeared to have proven itself in many ways - one way is simply that it has been in existence since 1997. An important factor is that it is not run by one individual but rather by members for members . The president and the committee are not getting any 'kick backs' from their positions and instead dedicate themselves to creating an environment where members can come together to create a vibrant and progressive Reiki community in Australia. Positions within the association are voted on by members each year, a bi-monthly newsletter brings everyone together along with a website that has a member's section. As this is not an advertisement for ARC we wont list the benefits and discounts members receive but, in short, we found what we were looking for.

If you're in Australia we'd recommend this association to all Reiki practitioners and if you're not - there are many other associations around the world that are trying to promote, educate and support too. It's a fabulous way to meet others and promote the growth of Reiki in a positive light through active membership.

Reiki Masters Frans and Bronwen Stiene (pronounced stee-nuh) are authors of the internationally acclaimed The Reiki Sourcebook, The Japanese Art of Reiki, Reiki Techniques Card Deck and the A-Z of Reiki and are the founders of the International House of Reiki.

Their website is the http://www.reiki.net.au which is full of lots of articles and research into Reiki.

With over 16 years of combined experience as practitioners, teachers and speakers in healing and spirituality they have worked with, taught and researched healing in the USA, Europe, Asia, Australia and Japan. They are teachers whose passion is truth, education, support and spiritual development for all.

    Reiki Hands-On-Healing

    >> CLICK HERE To Learn Reiki From Two Highly Experienced Usui Reiki Masters

Hands can protect, and hands can heal. Anyone feeling or seeing an injury to his or her body will have the instant reaction of putting one or both hands on that area. How many times have you seen someone put their hand over their mouth after saying the wrong thing? When watching a movie containing a scene that you do not like seeing, is not putting your hands over your eyes your first thought?

It may not be instinctive, but beginning in childhood we learn that putting our hands where it hurts on ourselves and on others feels good. Do you remember your mom or dad gently holding your finger that you had dropped something onto? When your heart is hurting does it not ease some of the pain to receive a hug from someone? When pain is involved, the natural reaction is to put hands on the location where we feel the pain.

All throughout history, some people have seemed to have more of a natural healing ability through their hands then others. It was only natural that the system Mikao Usui developed would involve the placing of hands on another who is ill. I once met a registered nurse that friends and patients would gravitate to because there was something healing about her presence and touch. Some people are natural healers and those people when connected to the vibrations of love and harmony of universal energy by a qualified Reiki Shihan (teacher) increase the healing that happens by their touch.

The difference between what flows from a various individual's hands once connect to Reiki is his or her ability to receive, which is based on their level of consciousness. A person cannot receive more than the level they can reach, which is determined by the level at which they resonate. Higher resonating comes through techniques and self-realization, not tools or Reiki symbols.

    Healing is in your hands.

The hands of any person feel more healing once that person has been connected to Reiki. I am referring to a connection made possible by a Reiki Shihan (teacher) and not knowledge that has been obtained through books or videos. Knowledge can cure, but healing is a natural process that requires energy in some form. The practice of Usui Reiki Ryoho is a powerful form of Universal energy.

Hands-on-healing, not the system called Reiki Ryoho, over the centuries has been called many things, such as the "royal touch" in ancient Europe. Unfortunately, at one time it was called by names that ended in selected people being burned at the stake. The mystery of healing being promoted and assisted by human touch is something that has no clear rules or explanations. The mysteries surrounding hands-on-healing are closely related to the mysteries of the heart.

Within each of us is the natural ability to heal our whole self. However, often that ability lies in a dormant state. One of the things Reiki does is to awaken that natural ability. Reiki being a form of universal energy also provides what is beyond the abilities of life force energy. The total actions of Reiki promote and speed the healing that is best for that life form at that junction in time.

A person who has been connected to Reiki easily does hands-on-healing because universal energy balances and surrounds with harmony. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, but changes form. That well from which all forms of energy originate creates mystery. Mystery is one of the things that surrounds the form of energy called Usui Reiki Ryoho, but it is the embracing of mystery that many wise men and women throughout the centuries have said enriches our lives.

Information was passed to me by the research of one of my Reiki Shihans (teachers), Richard Rivard, that Mikao Usui being a bit shy of cash would rent his dojo (school) to at least two of his students to use one evening a week. One of those students was practicing a hands- on-healing technique prior to Mikao Usui connected him to Reiki, and another held a medical doctorate. That shows that from the time Mikao Usui practiced and taught Reiki Ryoho many people recognizing the strength of the unique form of energy blended it into areas in which they were already skilled. The blending of Reiki into other practices with the intent to enhance the other practice is a common event. Reiki being a form of universal energy automatically tells us nothing can increase its strength, but it can easily enhance anything else in life, in a positive way.

Usui Reiki Ryoho differs from other hands-on-healing techniques. Hard training including memorized detials from textbooks and written tests are things few Reiki teachers find necessary. Reading books written by those that have researched or experienced some area of Reiki helps to expand our view, but a person cannot be connected without the assistance of a qualified Reiki Shihan (teacher). Another of my Reiki Shihans, Rev. Hyakuten Inamoto, also a Japanese Buddhist monk, explained how teaching Reiki is like pointing a finger to the moon. Once the student sees the moon and knows where it is he or she no longer has need of the finger. In the way Reiki developed once it left Japan and linked to the new age movement the finger transformed into the numerous Reiki symbols that various teachers felt were needed to show the overwhelming number of ways the vibrations of love and harmony can bring balance. Some teachers even incorporated materials and rituals used in other healing modalities.

The mysterious form of universal energy that needs nothing but a body that has been opened to it and a mind that is disciplined is not always easy for some people to accept. Perhaps we have become much too accepting of things being improved.

Another of the things that separates the spiritual practice of Reiki from other hands-on-healing practices is that it can create a better life. Not better as in learning a skill for an income, but better in learning how to allow balance and harmony to flow into all areas of life. Reiki is an effective way to raise spirituality and create a positive life. The mind is the master so daily practice is best to keep the mind in balance so that Reiki can flow smoothing out those bumps that are around you. Reiki flowing quietly into all of every day life is what I so embrace about the styles Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki, which I practice. I have found wherever I am and whatever I am doing if I connect to the light (Reiki) and allow it to flow into what is happening at that time, everything simply works more smoothly. Summer in the USA means insects, and when connecting I have fewer negative interactions. Reiki cannot be directed, but a person studying Reiki learns how to connect to person, place or event even over time and distance and allow Reiki to flow.

One of the unique things about Reiki is that it flows only as much as needed. If you rub an area of your skin that will soon show dark purple or swell it will feel better, but if you continue to rub for an unreasonable length of time, you will cause irritation. Reiki will not irritate, when the cells have received all they can hold at that time it stop flowing. If no cells are in need of energy, it does not flow. I believe everyone can always use extra energy because of all the trillions of activities going on in the mind and body.

Reiki also flows through the eyes, breath, soles of feet and emanates from the whole self. Because of this if a person's hands are not available to be used Reiki can still flow bringing balance, surrounding with harmony and healing.

Hiroshi Doi another of my Reiki Shihans (teachers) and a member of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai, the original society created in Japan, said "Usui-Sensei said of Reiki, "It is love, harmony and healing energy. Universal energy which is the essence of all existence is Reiki."

I have always enjoyed the motto of Komyo Reiki Kai, "Go placidly in the midst of praise or blame." Reiki Shihans such as myself must ask money in exchange for our time because most creditors do not accept hands on healing for payment, but we began our journey with the understanding the spiritual practice of Reiki Ryoho is not a skill leading to fame or fortune. The mystery that surrounds Reiki Ryoho I like to equate to that which surrounds our central nervous system. My spinal cord and brain were damaged in an accident. Oh the stories I could tell about how awesome I have found the unique energy called Reiki to be.

I have learned no one can give specific explanations for the lack of movement or sudden unexplained movements associate with central nervous system damage. Medical doctors, who I highly respect, know certain symptoms indicate damage in certain areas, but the answers to all those specific whys remain mysteries. Anyone that has not experienced central nervous system damage or studied it can at times become very annoyed because person X's limitations or actions do not fit in the file they hold that explains the workings of nerves.

Those people having only read or heard about Reiki can react in the same way to the mysterious form of universal energy. There are many things in this life that as humans we cannot know everything about or master. That is not a problem when you reflect on the origins of Usui Reiki Ryoho; "today/now there is no anger or fretful worry, we give thanks and do our work with diligence, and we are kind to all".

The love and harmony that comes from Usui Reiki Ryoho goes beyond hand-on-healing. If you would like to read more about my practice of Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki you can do so at http://www.naturalhealinglearning.com/

    Understanding Reiki Therapy

    >> CLICK HERE To Learn Reiki From Two Highly Experienced Usui Reiki Masters

Reiki healers are divided into three levels of therapy practice through attunements. The Reiki therapy teacher normally conducts a ceremony in which the teachers attach their hands in a proper position together with the symbol.

    The Three Levels

The Reiki healers I usually learn the basic hand positions and the sacred symbol and they can perform the direct healing over the others.

The Reiki II healers can teach the symbol of symbols and hand position in order to practice distance or absentee healing.

The Reiki III healers can make a commitment on the outside universal power and further. The stage three teachers are the highest stage. The lower ranks call them as master teacher.

Keep in mind that Reiki is not a type of religion, healers establish a five spiritual code attributes. Here are those principles:

    • Just for today do not worry.
    • Just for today do not be angry.
    • Honor your parents, teachers, and all the elders.
    • Learn how to earn your living honestly.
    • Be kind to your neighbors and in every living thing.

What are the risks in Reiki healing?

Reiki therapy healing is about working on a positive force that will only works for good without violating the human will. A patient has the capability to block the energy flowing in his body, but he cannot be harmed in any way.

Reiki is used for conjunctions with the Western medicine or homeopathy; the therapy does not ask the patients to change it religion or points of view in life. The therapy is only develop to help.

The fact that Reiki healers regard themselves as an energy channels, they may feel a warm, tickly sensation in their hands during the therapy treatment.

But the therapy do not cause any harm to the patient but the healers do not promise to heal their patient at a very short span of time.

    Group Reiki Treatment

    >> CLICK HERE To Learn Reiki From Two Highly Experienced Usui Reiki Masters

Every living and non living thing on this earth is permeated with the Universal life force energy. Mental or physical disease is caused by blockages in the free and uninterrupted flow of energy through an entity. The entity, then, experiences spiritual and physical divorce from the harmony of the Universe.

When energy healing is used, the connection is reestablished and the block removed. Healing, then, is as much a spiritual process as a physical one.

Group healing in Reiki is used when a powerful high voltage zap of energy is required to be sent to an entity or situation. The Native American sweat lodge or fire walking or the dance of the African witch Doctor with his disciples was nothing but efforts at group healing.

Group healing in Reiki is a unique experience. Each member of the group becomes a channel for the flow of energy. The energy flows through the body and out of his hands of the individual practitioner and is synchronized with that of the members of the group. It is given a specific direction of flow by the power of thought and symbol.

Before a group session can begin some amount of coordination at a physical level is required. The members call each other and decide on the date, time, and the type of healing and duration of the sessions. They also identify the patient or the situation who/which is to be given group Reiki. Often group practitioners spend some time sharing the experiences of the previous session and the purpose of the current session before beginning a group Reiki session. Ideally, one member of the group elects to lead the group and take the responsibility for the group. He leads the group through a visualization process. He also determines the allotment of time for each practitioner in the group and ensures that everyone adheres to the time allotted. He sits at the head of the patient while the others sit around the patient and place their hands on the person on the part nearest to them and move their hands to the next position together until each person has completed his treatment and cleared the aura of the patient.

Group healings are very effective in cases of patients with terminal problems, chronic diseases or extreme cases of emotional imbalance. The Reiki practitioners must understand that the symptoms of the disease are methods by which the higher mind alerts the body to stop and have a re-look at our lives. It is important that the patient is made to understand this concept and develop an attitude of gratitude towards the body. He or she will then be able to appreciate and critically examine the symptoms that have their root in causes that are deep seated. He/She will be able to assist the energy in the process of healing proactively.

    Case Study

Mr and Ms.K had adopted a baby from an orphanage fifteen years ago. The child’s parentage was unknown. As the child grew into adolescence he began to display an uncontrollable temper. He could not bear to be baulked in anything that he desired. He would beat up the persons who denied him. He would become stubborn and unreasonable about little things and was often violent with his parents, his teachers and classmates. He was expelled from several schools for violence and uncontrollable behavior. He was given psychiatric treatment and a number of drugs were prescribed to keep him calm. However, the situation worsened and the parents began to fear that the child was not mentally balanced and would soon have to be admitted to a mental home. While they were desperately trying to come to terms with the reality, a friend mentioned that Reiki may help the child come out of his problem. They approached the nearest Reiki clinic for help.

After talking to the patient and discussing with the parents it was decided that the child would benefit from group Reiki. Accordingly, arrangements were made for a group of three practitioners to be available for a month in the afternoons. The sessions began in earnest the next day.

Ms.S a Reiki practitioner with almost twenty years of experience took the lead role while the two of us stood on either side of the patient and placed our hands in the specified positions. We asked the child to close his eyes and focus on receiving the energy. We also told him that it was alright to go to sleep if he so desired. As the session progressed the child’s body began to twitch involuntarily and the twitching worsened as we continued giving Reiki. Soon his body was almost convulsing. He had his feet planted firmly on the table and his head was stable on the table, but the rest of his body seemed to try to get away from the energy. He twisted this way and that and began screaming and weeping with his eyes tightly closed. It was very alarming. However the leader calmly continued giving Reiki and so we followed suit. It was a horrifying experience. At the end of the hour we were very upset and sat down to share our experiences and map the future course of treatment.

On the next day the child was reluctant to take the treatment and his parents were also a little apprehensive about the violent reaction of the child. After some pep talk from Ms.S the treatment began. The pattern of response to Reiki continued to be the same for the next one week, but the intensity of reaction was lesser with each passing day. At the end of the week we were able to see the visible impact as the patient was more responsive and went to sleep on the coach. After the hour had passed and he had been gently woken up, the boy informed us that he felt very nice. He said thank you very sweetly and promised to come back the next day.

Master K has completed his one month of group Reiki treatment peacefully. He has vastly improved in health and is not very violent today. However, he does lose his temper once in a way and is not very emotionally stable yet. His parents have decided to learn Reiki themselves and also initiate Master K into Reiki. Meanwhile he continues to have Reiki with Ms.S on a one to one basis. He is also having Bach flower remedies as a supplement to the Reiki that he is receiving.

Violent reactions to Reiki are very common when blocks are severe and the energy literally blasts the blocks as it happened the case of Master K. In chronic cases, the number of sessions required would be large. Decisions on whether to resort to group or one to one Reiki will be dependent on the severity of each case. In every case, Reiki knows just what to do. The practitioner actually has very little to do apart from being a good channel through which the energy can flow and move his hand positions when he is given the indication by the Hibiki (the up-down in the tingling sensation in the palm).

    Reiki: Hands On Healing

    >> CLICK HERE To Learn Reiki From Two Highly Experienced Usui Reiki Masters

When I mention to people that I am a Reiki practitioner, that I might be able to help ease their pain or suffering, I usually get a quizzical look, followed by “you’re a WHAT?”

Reiki, pronounced ray – key, is an old form of healing that works with a person’s own abilities to heal themselves. As a practitioner of this art, I work in accordance with the person’s own willingness and permission. In effect, they must allow, as well as accept, these healing energies.

I have come to realize that a substantial part of my role is in educating people about what it is I do, about their own part in their healing, and a great deal of patience to stand aside and let the work do its own good in any given patient.

Each patient brings their own set of suffering, pain and issues to the table, and the Reiki energies work on these issues in due time, according to the tolerance level and needs of the patient. Reiki works on all levels of the human condition: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

As a practitioner, I start from the top of their head and work down, but I do not know where the energy will have the most effect. I have placed my hands on a woman’s shoulders for several minutes and afterward she told me that a many years long standing pain in her knee suddenly disappeared. She felt the energies moving through her body to that point in her leg. I did not know of that particular pain.

I have worked on so many different people and with each person, a new transformation takes place. One thing that every person shares is going into the “spacey zone” as I like to refer to it; they are so relaxed as to either drift off to sleep or go into a deep meditative state. Both are good places for a patient as they can allow the energies to flow more readily into their bodies.

A typical session takes about an hour, though I have worked on people for ten minutes and seen dramatic healings occur almost spontaneously. My hands seem to know their own correct path, a tremendous heat is generated and transfers to the patient.

On one rare occasion, a friend had blackened her eye in a bad fall, her cheek was bruised and swollen. When I placed my hands on her face, they turned cold on her skin. I was completely unaware of this, as they felt a normal temperature to me, but apparently cold was the needed cure for her injury.

Often, a physical pain throbs quite strongly under my touch, and as the energy works into it, the throbbing slows and dissipates. It’s as if a raging little gremlin trapped in the cells loses its hold and breaks down.

While more serious diseases of the body will take a number of sessions to address, even one session will leave the patient with a feeling of lightness, a freeing of the hold on the body. The energies continue to work within the patient’s body for several days after a healing, giving a needed respite to a body battling the dis-ease.

Physical pain in a body is a direction to the person to focus upon particular thought patterns that develop within their minds, transferring into the body their incorrect thinking. Reiki can redirect, realign and reestablish and more healthy line of thought.

While I have seen some dramatic effects through the use of this kind of healing, I would always encourage a person to use this alongside of their standard medical approach. Reiki is the perfect accompaniment to all other forms of healing, and will in no way, interfere with any other practice.

If someone could lay their hands on you for an hour, leaving you with a blissful, calm feeling and a little freer of pain than before you entered, wouldn’t you want to give it a try?

Nancy Nylen is a Reiki Master and practitioner since 1998, having worked on many people in areas such as cancer treatment, Hospice care and many other maladies, too numerous to be listed. She is patiently awaiting the day when medical doctors will inform and advise their patients of such practices and encourage people to find their own pathways to greater health and whole living. What is a Reiki Attunement?

    >> CLICK HERE To Learn Reiki From Two Highly Experienced Usui Reiki Masters

In answering, the first thing to do is to break the question down into parts.

The word attunement became a popular way to refer to the act of opening another's pathway to universal energy around the 1980s. The dictionary meaning for attunement is being or bringing into harmony, or a feeling of being at one with another being. Being in harmony with anything requires balance within and being in a state able to receive.

Herbalists, forest rangers, farmers, and many people have an attunement to nature. Nature has its own form of energy, and each life form within nature has its own energy. Anyone drawn to a plant, animal, or bird for no logical reason, and is aware of receiving a gift from that connection knows nature's form of energy.

Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, and there are trillions of forms of energy. The spiritual practice of Usui Reiki Ryoho uses one unique form of universal energy. The life force energy within each living being is another form, and throughout history different people have used still other forms. Many forms of energy are within and around us 24/7. Regardless of how many forms of energy one has experienced, each new energy feels different, if he or she is open to receiving.

Each initiation or empowerment (attunement) received from a Reiki Shihan (teacher) opens up your pathway a bit wider to allow more universal energy to flow through you. To completely open up to be one with the universe, which is beyond human comprehension, would take years of study, discipline, and practice. For Mikao Usui to reach his first awakening it took years of gathering knowledge of all kinds. He did not connect to universal energy until his second awakening following three years of disciplined Zen practice, days of deep meditation, and hours of unconsciousness.

As popular a phrase as Reiki attunement has become sometimes the knowledge that Usui Reiki Ryoho is a spiritual practices becomes lost. I first experienced Reiki in the 1980s. I explored other energy practices, met a few Reiki Masters, and then in the late 1990s I connected with a gifted Canadian Usui Reiki Ryoho teacher who taught me the spiritual practice of Usui Reiki Ryoho is not complicated, but has a depth that requires time to understand and guidance in how to embrace the energy.

While I often say just the word "Reiki", I know "Reiki" alone does not necessarily represent the spiritual practice that Mikao Usui founded in the early 1920s. As you read on, you will see why I say this.

I completed the teacher's level in Western styles of Usui Reiki Ryoho and then went on to complete the teacher's level in Gendai Reiki-ho and Komyo Reiki, commonly called Japanese Reiki. The research conducted and close lineage to Mikao Usui of three of my Usui Reiki Ryoho Shihans (teachers) gave me a wonderful beginning in my practice of Usui Reiki Ryoho. I feel honored at what they shared with me, and have continued to listen and read words of other Reiki teachers, even if some things I disregard. There are no secrets to be revealed about Usui Reiki Ryoho, but the hours of guidance from the right teacher can help a person to gain the understanding to grow spiritually and enhance all areas of his or her life. Healing is a byproduct of Usui Reiki Ryoho, it balances and surrounds with harmony so that one can live with health and happiness.

Reading an interview Paul Mitchell, a Usui Shiki Ryoho teacher (a style of Usui Reiki Ryoho), gave in October 2003 I saw an appropriate way of expressing how a teacher invites another into the spiritual practice of Usui Reiki Ryoho. He said. "Initiation is the sacred ritual passed on from master to master, which allows Dr. Usui's gift to be available to us. It is spiritual transmission." I disagree with Dr. placed in front of Mikao Usui's name and with the usage of master, but that does not take from the appreciation I have for the wisdom in his words.

Mikao Usui never received a doctorate. He was a very intelligent and insightful man, traveling a different path then formal education. I often include master/teacher after Shihan, but I have come to feel I would be a bit full of myself to think I could master the universe or any form that comes directly from it. When you visit my website http://www.naturalhealinglearning.com/ you will see master on my certificates, but I am most comfortable referring to myself as a Reiki teacher and practitioner.

No style of Usui Reiki Ryoho is better then any other style and each person should connect with the Reiki Shihan (teacher) that feels right to him or her. I would not suggest however if you want to learn a spiritual practice, that you study 5239 Reiki. I would also not suggest that your first choice of a Reiki teacher be Reiki Kushida. Then again, even though Reiki Kushida is a Japanese astronomer who co-discovered the asteroid 4875 Ingallis, discovered at least 14 supernovas in other galaxies, and who the asteroid 5239 Reiki is named after, she still might have studied with members of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai.

Even if Reiki Kushida did not study Usui Reiki Ryoho, she still may have mentally connected with a part of herself that was a very strong energy when she was looking through her telescope. In the 1980s I experienced altered states of mind through meditation, which might be described as the same feeling as an attunement by someone not having been connected to universal energy by a qualified Reiki Shihan. Experimenting with certain audio tones, what some call toning, during meditation not Reiki, I would go into that space where time and worry simply do not exist. Brain waves operate at many levels, so with guidance and practice you can experience many energies simply within yourself. I have experienced many energies, but none has the same feel as the unique form of universal energy called Usui Reiki. Unless a person has experienced the different energies, he or she cannot know if two energies have any similarities.

Following studies of other forms of energy I attended a festival of energy practices. I opened myself up to receive all the positive energies around me. It certainly sat me down, but it was not the same energy as Usui Reiki. The world is full of mysteries and many different forms of energy. Each time we experience a new energy it is foreign to our whole self and feels different then what we have experienced before, but that does not mean it is universal energy.

You do not have to be looking for energy to experience it. Love is energy and people often find that without looking for it. Mikao Usui was not looking to connect to the vibrations of love and harmony of universal energy, it just happened while he was in deep disciplined focused meditation. I say connected because for centuries people have known that universal energy has been and is always all around us, so he did not discover or rediscover anything.

I have received what is commonly called attunements in many styles of Usui Reiki Ryoho. The vibrations of love and harmony of universal energy is always the same, but the life force energy of the person through which it flows can change the way the energy feels, looks, and smells. Think of universal energy as the pure water coming from a spring in an untouched natural forest. The water drunk from a paper cup will taste different then that from a glass or a tin cup, different again depending upon what other beverage was first in the cup or glass, and different depending upon how well the cup or glass was cleaned. It is the same with universal energy flowing through body, mind, and spirit. Universal energy that has not been altered also has a very fine delicate feel.

An attunement is only the beginning and is best received from a qualified Reiki Shihan in the style you decide is best for you. There are no odd rituals practiced if the style follows the tradition of Usui Reiki Ryoho. No hidden secrets and no way anyone can skip the time needed for the shifts to happen at all levels. Each person assimilates in her or his own reality and what appears new to him or her might be viewed as a secret.

There are many others energies and energy practices in the world. Usui Reiki Ryoho is the connection to a unique form of energy and stems from living the Gokai.

It is each person's choice what he or she wishes to study, but not all paths lead to the same destination. Words have many meanings and when translated from another language that multiplies. Do you know the meaning of Japan? The kanji for Japan literally means, "The origin of the sun", or less literally, "Land of the Rising sun". On my website I show my lineage to Mikao Usui and explain more about the spiritual practice of Usui Reiki Ryoho.
